Self-Determination of people with disabilities – Literature review

Our literature review provides an overview of current knowledge on the subject of self-determination and highlights the main issues, obstacles, and drivers that support it throughout life.

It is structured around six main sections:

  1. A reflection on the contemporary vision of disability, presenting the social model, international guidelines on inclusion and participation, as well as the importance of intersectionality and relational dimensions.
  2. An overview of the different theoretical models of self-determination.
  3. An analysis of the self-determination of persons with disabilities, addressing various areas of life such as housing, sexuality, and end-of-life.
  4. A study of self-determination during childhood.
  5. A study of self-determination in adulthood.
  6. A study of self-determination in later life.
